"Generix" - The Tabby Import/Export Report System
(C) 1992 Currents! Technologies - All Rights Reserved
Generix creates reports containing information about the flow
of echomail to and from your BBS. This information can be
used in a number of ways: 1) find out exactly how many
messages are being delivered to your system, 2) find out
in what echo areas and how many messages your users are
contributing, 3) determine the relative activity of an echo
area, 4) track the number of processing sessions occuring
on any given day of the week.
Generix - Components
.................................
The Generix system contains two small Tabby-aware modules;
Generix Import and Generix Export. As you can imagine, the
Generix Import module gathers information from Tabby's
"Generic Import" file and the Generix Export module gathers
information from Tabby's "Generic Export" file. All of the
resultant files and the Generix data files area written and stored
in a folder named "Generix Files."
Generix - Setup
........................
1> Copy both Generix modules and the "Generix Files" folder into
the same folder containing TabbyNet.
2> Edit ALL of your event modules (in Tabby Maint, in TabbyNet's
STR 500, and any other utility which processes your Tabby events)
to include both of the Generix modules' names. You can rename the
Generix modules if you wish.
- Put the Generix Import module in your event lists right after
Tabby's "DeliverMail" module.
- Put the Generix Export module n your event lists right before
Tabby's "SendNews" module.
NOTE: You will not get an accurate count if you do not
run the Generix system during each processing
period. It is important to add the Generix modules
to each of your Tabby events, inlcluding Crashmail.
NOTE NOTE: You do not need to run both Generix modules
if you only wish to track either messages
imported or exported from your BBS. But
for an accurate understanding of your echomail
and netmail traffic you should run both.
Generix - Operation
.............................
Generix reads the appropriate Generic Import/Export file when it is
launched during a Tabby event. It processes information and then
writes its reports into the Generix Files folder.
Generix - Reports
...........................
Generix creates three reports - Session, Daily, and Weekly Report.
The Session Report tells you how many messages were processed
during each Tabby event session - normal mail hour and crash mail
sessions. The Daily Report gives you cumulative data for each
day of the week for an entire week. The Daily Report and the
datafiles are reset during the first processing session each Sunday.
The Weekly Report is also created during the first processing session
on Sunday. It contains the total messages processed for the previous
week. The Weekly Report's filename ends with the date and is saved
from week to week.
A log is also kept of the modules' operations which contain basic info
which may be used to perform troubleshooting if necessary.
Generix - Notes
........................
To manually reset the Generix system, throw away all of the data
files and reports (or move them out of the Generix Files folder). It
should not be necessary to do this, but you can if you wish.
Generix - Future
........................
Upcoming additions to the Generix system will be the inclusion
of a Monthly Report and tracking by username the number of
messages entered by your users. Also planned is the tracking of
message activity from those who Point off your BBS.
Generix - The Terms of Use
